FAQS

How do I connect via Bluetooth?
  • Make sure Bluetooth is turned on for your smart device. Verify the Bluetooth symbol is on the top of your device screen.
  • Make sure Bluetooth is turned on for the thermometer base unit. Press and hold the Bluetooth button to turn on Bluetooth for the base unit (the "") icon appears on the screen).
  • On the app’s Home Screen, tap “Connect Bluetooth” again to send a signal from the app to the base unit.
  • Make sure the base unit and smart device are within transmission range of each other, which is 60 feet (30 meters) in an open area. Check there are no obstacles between the base unit and the smart device for best connection.
  • Other electronics devices may cause interference with the connection (particularly those with Bluetooth). Keep them at least 3 feet away from the base unit.
I lost the Bluetooth connection – what should I do?
  • Verify you are in range – within 30 meters – of the device.
  • Verify there is nothing to interrupt the Bluetooth signal.
  • When the device is in range of the base station, click “Connect Bluetooth” again.
  • The app will automatically check for a Bluetooth connection every 5 seconds.
I don’t have a smart device, can I still use the product?
Yes, the base station is still operational without the app. Two events can be run simultaneously and can be programmed by temperature only. There are no presets on the base station.
I cannot install the SmarTemp app on my device?
  • Verify that your device supports Bluetooth 4.0 technology.
  • Devices that are support the app are:
    1. Apple iPhone version 4S and later (supporting Siri)
    2. Apple iPad 3 and later
    3. Apple iPod Touch 5 and later
    4. Apple iPad Mini using iOS version 6.0 and above
    5. Samsung Galaxy S3 and later
    6. Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and later
    7. HTC One
    8. Google Nexus 4 and later
    9. Compatible with devices running Bluetooth 4.0 technology
  • Delete any old versions of the app and reinstall.
How do I find the app in the App Store or Google Play?
Search for Taylor SmarTemp, SmarTemp to find the app. Or go to the Taylorusa.com website, search for SmarTemp and download the app via the link.
Why doesn’t the app display elapsed time?
The app is running a time in the background of the app, and when a record is saved to history, that total time is displayed. We apologize if this is confusing.
Why do I need to allow access to my photos?
In order to save a photo reference to history or to upload to social media, the app requires the use of your device’s phone. If that access is denied, the app cannot use a photo and no photo record can be saved.
I did not allow access to my photos, but now I want to. What can I do?
The app will remember the selection. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app will reset this selection.
When I saved my event to history, the temperature was much lower than my programming. Why?
The history event will save as soon as you hit STOP. If you don’t hit STOP when the alarm rings, the app will continue to record temperatures, even if you take it out of your food. If you remove the probe, and then hit STOP, the history event will save at the temperature when STOP is pressed, which may be lower. You can always edit your notes in your history to note the correct final temperature.
When I tried to save to history, I accidently hit “no”. Can I still save my record?
Unfortunately, once “no” is pressed, the event record cannot be saved.
Can I save the history to my computer?
The SmarTemp app information is saved to the device only and cannot be uploaded to a computer for backup. Only if your device has backup functions will the information be saved.
My app and base station are reading in ºC – how can I change it to ºF?
Go to the Settings tab and adjust the temperature settings accordingly.
I can’t hear the alarm when the food is ready?
  1. Ensure that your device's ringer is turned up.
  2. The base station will still sound an alarm when ready.
Can I change my alarm tone?
Only the alarms that are loaded with the app can be used.
Can I have a different alarm tone for cooking versus the timer?
Yes, go to the Settings tab.
I don’t have Facebook or Twitter – can I still share my information?
Unless there is a Facebook or Twitter profile set up, the cooking event cannot be shared.
Why does the base station alarm continue to ring when I stop the app?
This serves as a backup reminder to actually remove or attend to the food from the cooking appliance, as turning off the alarm on the app only may accidently allow the food to overcook.
Can I use the base station without the app?
Yes, the base station is designed to be used without the app. Temperatures can be set by temperature only, but two different foods can be monitored at once. Preset temperatures are only available via the app. The timer function can also be used with the base station only.
What does it mean when the battery icon shows on the base station?
  • That indicates the batteries are low and need to be replaced.
  • It is recommended that the base station is shut off when not in use by pressing and holding the on/off button.
What are the preset temperatures on the app?

My temperature preferences are different than the presets?
Taylor follows the USDA recommendations for food preparation temperatures. If you prefer your foods cooked to a different level based on experience, you can set a custom temperature with the + and – buttons on the app.
My candy recipe uses a different temperature range than the preset?
It is recommended that you follow the recipe requirements. Use the custom option to set to the temperature in your specific recipe.
How can I get the “Taste” drop down to work?
The taste drop down is only available for meats that have varying taste levels. There is only one USDA recommended temperature for Chicken, Poultry and Fish, so there would be no taste option available.
My temperature reads HH or LL?
  • When the app or the base station reads HH, the probe has been exposed to temperatures exceeding the max temperature of 492ºF.
  • When the app or base station reads LL, the probe is reading below the minimum temperature of 14ºF.
  • If neither of these conditions is present, the probe itself may be damaged.
  • ONLY remove the probe from the food by the stainless steel probe. Pulling on the cord can damage the sensor inside the stainless steel probe, and cannot be repaired.
Why does one of the probes have a round end? Can I use that for meat?
  • The rounded end probe is designed to monitor oven or ambient temperatures, or for candy making. The pointed tip may scratch saucepans or pot so we include a rounded tip probe for use in those vessels.
  • You can use the rounded tip into meat but you need to create the hole first so the probe
What type of batteries are required?
The SmarTemp requires 2 AAA batteries, which are included.
Why is the battery on my device draining quicker when using the SmarTemp?
When food events are programmed and running, the app will be running constantly. The app does not dim the screen after non-use. The app can be minimized on the screen but will always be running. Because the app looks for the Bluetooth connection consistently, the battery may drain quicker than when the device is in standby mode.
The temperature readings do not seem accurate?
Verify what the SmarTemp is being measured against to be sure that product is accurate.
Can the SmarTemp be recalibrated?
The SmarTemp is calibrated at the factory and under normal usage should not need any adjustments. However, this product is not able to be recalibrated by the users.
